Hey everyone I know this question has probably been asked before but I got a dilemma. I ultimately want these two good lens. I currently have

18-135 sell
50 1.8 keep
85 1.4 sell
8mm fisheye sell

I want a sigma 17-55 2.8 and some wide angle lens.. I'm conflicted with the wide angle. I'm thinking the canon 10-22 or the tokina 11-16. 2.8 sounds nice with the tokina but don't think it's necessary for wide shots . Looked threw both threads at there pics n they both are fantastic.. Was also considering the 17-40L but not sure how wide that would be. Considering the L for the reason of maybe one day goin full frame... Anyone on here have these lens n can give me a bit of advice? Greatly appreciated

I can't comment on a few of the lenses you mention but I can comment on the 17-40 f4L. I own this lens and will not be parting with it any time soon. I truly love this lens. Even on a crop body it is an amazing lens. When I need wider I stitch. This lens will be with me for many years to come.

Oh, so you're constrained by class rules. I always hated that (in the few classes I took).

What's the "Sunny 16" rule?

great explanation with other goodies at the bottom :) rules that make life easier

For the wide angle, get a Sigma 10-20 if you are solely gonna use it outdoors and don't need the f/2.8 aperture~

Last I checked it was $400 and cheaper than the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8. It's what I had before I went to FF + new UWA

I can second this, as I currently have the Sigma 10-20. I've never found the need for 2.8 yet.

I will vouch for the Tokina all dayyyyyy. I love that lens, but I have and do use it at 2.8 very frequently. I have heard of people selling their Canons and getting a Tokina, and vise versa, so I really don't think you can go wrong with either of those if you're planning to get one of them. Just keep in mind 11-16 is not much range at all and it may as well be a prime.

If you don't think you will need 2.8, you should definitely save some bucks and go for the Sigma.

UWA's are just awesome in general, it's just all about what your needs are.

Where are all the 85mm F1.2 shots? ;)

:O...

Most of my new stuff is f/1.2! I truly love the 85L II; have no idea. I haven't swapped to any other of my lenses for the past month...<33333

Haha I never used the rule either until now! I'm not a fan of it because I think it detracts from creativity, but exposure compensation rules are really helpful though, I just need to get the numbers out of my head.

Sidenote: I have seen so many great 5Dc's coming and going in the FS forum... it's making me really bummed out that I have other financial obligations. I just keep telling myself good deals will always show up and they'll be there when I'm ready... hopefully they'll be cheaper with the 5D Mark III's, Mark II's, and 6D's floating around. :D

I've got my pc built wow I've gone from a five year old twin core with 2 gig of ram to an i5 with 16gig ram and ssd!!!! What a difference just upgraded to Lightroom 4 and it's so fast with previews and using photoshop with filters is no longer a chore.
Here is a shot of Laura my first play in Lightroom 4
