ever since I was stricken with the 24-105L IS bug... I'm thinking of sending in my 40 to Canon to get it FW updated (and a white spec removed from the inner element if they will for free) - then sell my 15-85, my 40, and a used but still biologically functional kidney for the 24-105L which seems to me like a fantastic indoor portrait on a crop body/multi-purpose lens.

If I get $400 for the kidney then that would be good... especially if the new owner likes old whiskey, because its already accustomed ;)

I want to keep my fun & mighty 85 though...

.... and sell the 70-200 and the 40mm when the price go back up.

So i will end up with the 17-40 for my wider needs(e.g. landscape), 85mm for some portrait...

I use it once a month, reason why Im selling that **** and getting that 135L :D

I know the 135L is a magician. and it's about the same price as the hot sigma 35 f1.4.

but i figured the 35 is more useful for my indoor jobs(stills and videos). my trusty 85 f1.8 will do the job for my indoor/outdoor portrait for now.

That's a great shot, what a fantastic expression you have to print this. I thought the other two you posted were great too they really suit the black and white.

Dr. D, your EXIF is off so I can't see your shutter speed, it looks like subject motion to me.

awilli1715k, my 17-55 is sharper than my 50mm 1.4, however I did have to send it in to Canon to get adjusted when I first got it because it was front focusing. The lens is known for excellent optics.

When u say front focusing u mean when it goes back n forth n makes that noise?

front focusing is a type of 'mis-focus' or misalignment of a lens, in that the lens actually focuses a little 'in front' of the subject you are fixed on. It could front focus by 0.0001mm or 15mm or more, depending on the lens.

Same for back focusing - which is when the lens actually has focus 'behind' the subject.

Both cases above result in soft images of your intended subject/target.

Its fixed by either Canon (hardware fix), or - in a supported EOS camera body such as the 50D, 7D, 5DII, etc - but this is only a software micro-focus re-calibration and not an actual lens fix.

the condition you refer to above is likely the AF motor trying to lock on to enough contrast to ... well, lock on to your AF point/subject.

I hear ya, I love the 15-85 IS for walkaround but tired of its zoom creep and variable aperture for portraiture, and I like the focal length of the 24-105L on a crop...

and I'm not saying I'll give up my better kidney...

if i go to the adorama website, the lens i'm looking for is backordered. but when i go to amazon it's available through adorama.

do you think adorama might have set aside stocks for amazon?

not sure but I'm sure Adorama is more interested in pleasing their immediate customers first vs those other stores they have affiliation with... just a guess

I'll let you in on a secret!

I decided that the lens I want is the 24-70 MkII... I compare every possible lens purchase (all of them cheaper) to this lens and I find them wanting...

..and since I can't justify to myself spending the money for the EF 24-70 MkII...

I make do with the 18-200 thank you very much!:lol::lol:

EDIT: The trouble will start if I buy the 5DIII (I swear I will if I sell my sailboat in Greece)

just got the Bamboo Capture today and they gave me the PSE 8... bummer, must have been sitting in the warehouse... I'll contact them and see if I can get a v9 which is so much better. Its actually not for me - I have 10, I want to give the 9 to a friend! ;)

the Capture is a better size vs the Create, for me. I just make my upper and lower pen clicks the '[' and ']' keys to increase/decrease brush size - and adjusted the pen 'softer' so it is more accurate to the size of the brush circle.

turn the 'touch' off and its an expensive mouse pad...

cheers ~
