From what I've seen and read, they both seem like great lenses... but I haven't shot with either yet so I can't say for sure. Wow, I'm a big help, lol. :p

are you looking to lay out the almost 900 for the sigma 1.4? if you are why not save up for a little while and laid down the money for the sigma 70-200mm 2.8 os ? that way you can cover your 85mm and then you can run the long end for other stuff and still have 15mm under that to play with as well?

the price differences is around 400 bucks

Not me, I've got my 70-200 2.8 covered, and I'm not letting that lens go anytime soon. :)

yes the OS is worth its weight in gold on that lens Vinz the newest 2.8 os model is amazing hands down worth the price and at almost a thousand dollars less then the canon mark II it is a shooter with a great disposition and better then the canon mark I

I tried the 70-200 2.8 non IS and it was so heavy .. I have a feeling it will be even more heavy with the IS. Maybe I should rent the IS or OS version first to see. For a little over 900 I could probably get the F4 NoN IS and the canon 85mm 1.8. But honestly I wanted the F4 IS. May have to hit up lens rental first to see which one I can handle weight wise

You know, a good strap goes a long ways making a lens feel a lot lighter. I have a Black Rapid R Sport that works awesome, I've carrie my 70-200 around all day without it bothering me. I think BlackRapid also makes a strap with a curve in it to fit women more comfortably. Just a thought. A 70-200 at 2.8 with stabilization is a beautiful thing, Canon or Sigma. :)

Pet peeve... The nifty fifty's AF is oft maligned as being noisy and inaccurate...

Ok... the AF is NOT USM, but is not gonna wake people from the dead...:D

Inaccurate?

Judge for yourselves... (in 2 posts)...

The photo (taken a number of times with the nifty and the 18-200, here is the nifty version:

Single center point focus AI-Servo... (I always use AI-Servo, I am not that steady in my old age...:D).

100% crop of the previous photo and a near identical one focused on the white lyre-shaped organ of the orchid...

Exif intact... f2.8

You can now appreciate how thin the DOF is even at f2.8

At f2.0, I don't think I am good (steady enough) to focus on the right spot. Would USM help? Yes! But the lens is not soft! It's the step of the stepper motor that leaves something to be desired. So, it's up to us to learn how to use the nifty and it can be rewarding...
