guys this whole lens thing makes me crazy.

Now that I have the 60mm macro. i realized i'm not really into macro photography. I have auto extensions anyway for some light macro photography jobs.

Since the wind is blowing me towards Portraiture, I wanna sell my 60mm macro to get a canon 50mm F1.4 USM.

I also thought there's more money in portraiture. + at F1.4, i can throw more background which is my problem in my last photoshoot.

Please vote for yes if you think my plan is the right way.

Yes, it's the sensor. I tested the lenses & then realized the spots didn't move. I was doing tests at f22 & then I realized I could go 32 so they're darker than what I had been trying to clean off, but I'm not going any further with the wrong tools at this point LOL. Throughout my process it would get better or worse & this is the best I could get it.

But, I'm fine with it like that if that's an okay amount of dust ;)

i did the same thing and it worsen. we both have to buy the right tools for this.

How far away will your subject be? The f/1.4 is tricky, the DOF is sooooooo shallow at that point that literally you can have an eye in focus, but not the ears or tip of the nose. I have one and having too shallow of a DOF is something you have to balance in your shots constantly.

super cool you got it. is manual focusing is something you choose to do or you have a manual focus only lens?

About 90% of the photography I do is night photography so manual focus is almost always necessary. I've always in the past tried to focus on a light of some kind whether it be a pole light, or maybe a lantern I was out walking with something. However I never knew if I quite got it and I've had on more then one occasion an entire night of shots just off focus. The focus confirmation is golden for me.

Vinz, I saw your other post as well about the FF.

Starting with the swap to FF. The way you are right now, if you sell the 60D and some lenses to buy the 5D2 (in my opinion a great sensor in a crippled body), you will not have lenses to shoot yourself in the foot let alone shoot portraits... Unless you came into some inheritence...

You've seen the photo of my wife with the black hat. You can't appreciate the sharpness in 1024x683.

IMAGE: http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/MakisM/Canon/IMG_3265GIMP_1024v3.jpg

The focus in the eyes is tack sharp, up to the nose. The ear lobes are OOF. The aperture was f2.8

In f2.0 or f1.8 the DOF is so much more shallow, I move a little bit when I press the shutter button and I miss it.

Edit: Here is a 100% crop of the original jpg file which illustrates what I describe above.

hahaha... in my latest low key night shots portrait, i have to bring my flash light just for focusing. when focus was achieved, turn off the flash light and shoot.

Keyan,

My mother in law used to saw: patience is a virtue, possess it if you can. It's seldom found in woman and never in a man..... I hate waiting for stuff. I'm worse than a kid waiting for Christmas.

UPS here is a bit unpredictable. I can get packages in the morning when they are shipped one day, but they usually show up somewhere between 3 and 7:30PM...Quite a varied delivery time. Our house isn't far away from their local shipping depot so I suspect we are one of the last places they deliver each day.

I hope your 70-300L shows up soon and in perfect working order. I ordered mine right before the Memorial Day weekend and it messed things up for a few days as well.

I sprung for the 100 vs the 60 because of the fact you can be further from your subject... but I'm so used to being right on top of my subject, it's a whole new learning experience for me.

The nice thing about these macro lenses is that you can use them for more than macro. IE, portraits! I won't be getting a 50 prime since I'll just use the 100 macro.

I'd rather have a 40 personally.

yah i know the risk of having to buy the right lens again for the FF(not a good thing)...

let me see what the 70D can offer when it move as the APS-C flagship(if CR is right)

thanks.

Vinz, what I am saying is that the 60 is probably good enough for portraiture at f2.8. You don't even need the f2.0 or f1.4.

Since you have the bug, I'd suggest to slowly invest buying the Holy Trinity (35L, 85L, 135L) and then you can move to the 5D3 or 5D4 depending on how long it takes... You can buy the 50L as well before that...

Edit: From the other thread. The problems you had with your pool photo shoot were not in portraits but in full scene shots where the fence showed. For this kind of photo, indeed a f1.4 would be of help. A f1.2L even more so...:p
