My one week experience with the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC

i don't even know where the zoom direction goes on ANY lens.
so that doesn't affect me at all

I've had one of these for a couple of months, I've also had in the past, canon 24-104, 24-70 and nikon 24-70. The tamron feels a little cheaper than the canon version or nikon version but I found pretty good in comparison. You may have just got a lemon, or I may have just got a good one.

it's a bargain lens for those who can't/won't pony up for the lens they really want.

I believe most of his problems was his incompatibility with the lens

Don't speak for me. I bought both the 70-200 and the 24-70 Canon MK2's. Sold or sent em back. Kept the Tamrons.

I must have the rarest Tamrons' ever that perform amazing. So.... to comment on your comment. I can and did pony up for the lens I really wanted and was left with "Really this is all I got"

All I can say Talley is we'll check back in a year or two and see how your Tamron 24-70 holds up. Mine didn't do too well: focus consistency/accuracy issues. I've already had my 70-200 in for service because the the zoom ring started binding. I must say the focus on the Canon 24-70 is extremely fast and accurate....glad I made the switch. MFA on the Canon is 0/1. My Tamron 70-200 MFA 10/11.

I'll give you that on the focus of the canon 24-70... same as the 135/70-200mk2/85 1.8 very fast.

For what I use the lens for I don't need focus speed just accuracy. Checking back I purchased the lens 06/13 so I'm in my 8th month. Right now since it's been serviced it's 0MFA and my Tamron is a 4/4. However I've had to mfa every canon lens I've used except for the 70-200mk2 I had. The 24-70 I had took a -1/2 and the 135 in my sig uses a -2

The tamron focuses in the darkest dark I can point at. and it's stabilized. It's very sharp wide open and it's my most used everyday lens and when I want static shots it's my goto lens. For people I don't need IS I'm generally in the 1/160-1/250 range. For me it's accuracy is stellar.

I've seen you complain about yours at least a dozen times but I've also heard many many many stories about the IQ of the canon V1 lens degrading over time and needs readjusting. Same difference. Send it in for a refresh. The pro's pay for CPS and constantly send in their gear annually for refreshments.

I guess if someone really wants VC, he/she can only pony up for the Tamron. The choice is easy.

I dont think anyone is refuting the Canon superiority. Its just the cost to benefit ratio isnt as steep as you hype train passengers make it out to be. But carry on, keep judging, keep arguing. I'll be sitting in a dark corner with my sh*tty 3rd party lenses having a decent cry

i went to buy the canon 2 but decided to try out the tamron as well. Trying to get some input from the dealer about the 2 her opinion was it was a difference between name only. Of course that really surprised me as i figured she would definitely recommend the higher ticket priced item. Shooting with both i.could see the Canon did focus faster and was a tad sharper but having friends review the pictures they couldn't tell a difference. The tamron is already quite sharp. So for half the price of the Canon i decided to get the Tamron. With the money saved i bought the 135L. Now to say the Canon isn't better optically is completely wrong but to say the Tamron isn't an excellent lens is just fanboyism.

Wow since when have you been prone to such exaggeration? Thats not like you! You show me where I've complained about the Tamron a dozen times and I'll buy you the lens of your choice!

You may be able to find four threads where I mentioned the various problems I've had which included (1) the battery drain issue on all new Canon cameras which could only be corrected by replacing the lens. (2) focusing issues. (3) VC issues. (4) front lens falling out. All major QC problems.
These have nothing to do with "compatibility" issues. Hope you have no future issues. There are plenty of threads of people complaining about the Tamron. You seem to take it personally whenever someone says something negative about the Tamron. Why?

BTW you notice I still have Tamron equipment and rather enjoy it! (unless it starts falling apart too)

Ok maybe only 3 or 4 times. I don't take anything personally. I do defend the Tamrons because some people who have issues with a particular lens and decides to get rid of it will only speak negative. There are good copies out there and Tamron warranty is great so for anyone who gets a lackluster copy just send it in. They'll fix it to greatness.

By keeping the tamrons I was able to get the 135/85 combo. Sure I could get the Canon mk2's but felt that extra 5% wasn't worth it.

I've owned mine for nearly two years now, should be broken at this point

I guess I "lucked out", but either way, got 4 more years. With canon, I'de be out of luck and out of pocket.

Love the VC, and wish my canon primes had VC/IS. If you feel that you need a top notch canon L zoom to capture photos, then more power to you. I prefer a stabilized lens, and canon can't compete in that sense. Glad there's an alternative.
