I am not a computer wizard, so if someone could advise me, I'd appreciate it!

I am guessing that I have qty 4 2gb sticks of ram installed? So could I get 4 4gb sticks, or no?

This imac is around 2 years old.

Thanks for your input!!!

It appears you CAN upgrade the RAM.

Why do you want more Ram?

Its only an i3 so is unlikely to be able to fully use more than 8GB, it will become CPU limited before it becomes RAM limited.

So long and thanks for all the flash

Contact your local Apple Store. They can tell you exactly how much memory you can upgrade to, if any based on your data.

My current iMac is about the same age and it can only go up to 8 GB max. So we bought a MacBook Pro that allows us to go higher.

for the money, it's worth it to me, to try it.
8-16gb shouldn't be as noticeable as 4-8gb, but it can't hurt.

You might want to contact a Mac speciality house like OWC (http://www.macsales.com/ (external link)) to get a 16GB upgrade kit.

Have you checked the Activity monitor to see if your using all the of the 8GB you have?

Its an easy way to find out where the bottle neck is.

It can't hurt, and may improve your performance, but it's probably not going to be particularly obvious unless you're memory constrained now, which seems unlikely.
