Haven't experimented yet, but just reading the manual has me overwhelmed. I think I'm going to like this camera.

I mean theres a setting to detect a smile, or a wink, or even a new face in a group! Not to mention panoramic stitching! Holy cow.

Congrats, you'll love it, I use the Auto ISO setting, the camera does a pretty good job figuring out what you'll need, I'll sometimes override by using the +or- settings depending on the light source and subject.

Also don't forget, when you shoot on a tripod, turn OFF the image stabilization as that can cause bad things to happen, and use the self timer when you can.

Umm..He's Sick, My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Ferris pass-out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious……

Here are a few shots of today in my backyard. I am very impressed. Although a few learning curves are necessary, I think I will like this.

Here are a few shots from our weekend trip to Fossil Rim, Texas. This is an Aoudad (Barbary Sheep). Their eyes are awesome.

If you havent already, look into loading a card with CHDK to squeeze that little extra performance out of the sx40 :P Its really useful if you want to do time lapse or motion detection and allows you to override the shutter for longer or shorter periods among heaps of other little tweaks and tricks.

I cant wait to see some aircraft shot with the SX40, (I Know not more blxxdy planes)
Just that reach, and at 860mm with that cmos sensor they should be even sharper than mine with my SX10 at 560mm.

"just cant wait to compare"

CHDK is a firmware enhancement as such. You go through a process of loading the chdk firmware to a sd card and once the sd card with the chdk software loaded on to it is inserted in the camera it will load a different interface (can be slightly confusing at the start) which allows you to override the maximum shutter speed from 15 seconds to longer than a minute, set custom iso levels, reduce minimum shutter speed from 1/3200 to 1/500,000!,shoot in RAW and quite a few other things.

If your just getting the hang of the camera you might not benefit from it but if after a while you feel like your pushing the camera to the limit and want to get the most out of it chdk will give that to you.
