Congratulations! More and more I have been wanting the 85 1.2. I don't think I'll be able to hold out much longer.

solinger, have you played with one? Friend of mine has it and the thing is amazing. Some may complain that it's too heavy, but I love the weight of it too. Looks like I'll move it to the top of my queue ;-)a

Sam, you have a standing offer for a one week loan of my 85mm if you ever come into SF.
An investment of that magnitude should be considered carefully. Who knows, you might hate it...though that's doubtful 8-)

Considering my camera, 20D (a 1.6 crop factor), I would like to have (in fact, I do have the 135L) the two ends of the so called trinity but not the 85mm in the middle. I guess if for some reason I felt the need for a f/1.2 lens (perhaps shooting a black cat in a coal mine by candle-light) I would have no other choice. I just find 85mm a bit odd fitting in my shooting scheme. It was a good focal lenght when I was using 35mm film (I had a 90mm).

Congrats on your purchase of the "Trinity"
What the hell, you only live once so enjoy! If you can afford it go for it!
If you don't like them, you can sell them at almost the same price......How much would it cost to rent them? Maybe the same price as to buy and sell if not satisfied......;)

Congrats. I also subscribe to the thought "if you can afford it, do it." Sure, I know photography is about skill and having an eye but just like any hobby, buy what makes you happy if you can afford it.

Nice lens line-up. Have fun!

Well,.. at least on this forum I think the term "trinity" and the choice of those three lenses was coined by Schmoezel...

And anyone who can call him merely a "collector" is a far better photographer than I,... or just about anyone else for that matter.

We seem to have a run on posts of sour grapes these days... seems every one is a better judge of who should get what than the actual owner.

Congrats on a fine set of primes Steve!

Thank you CDS....and Nezmo!

I'm sure I'm going to enjoy the lenses. With them I'll see just how far this passion for photography will take me. It's been a fun ride so far. :)

Best Regards.

Steve,

congrats on your completion of a great set of lenses :D
Which was the one you got last?

I'm currently working towards that but with more modest funds...
Sigma 30/1.4, Canon EF 50/1.4, Jupiter-9 85/2.0, CZJ 135/3.5

Best regards,
Andy

some cameras, some lenses,
and still a lot of things to learn...
(so post processing examples on my images are welcome :D)

Thanks Andy.
The last one was the 135mm. I had planned on getting it sometime during the year but through some good luck I got it earlier than I thought.

If I had a family as young as yours, I wouldn't be splurging like this. I'd be searching for a disposal camera forum to join :) :)

Age (and adult children already fending for themselves) has its advantages. :)

Best Regards

Steve

Lets be honest here, Schmoezel is not human..

Rumours were heard he cut his arm not long ago and he had wires sticking out..;)

Seriously that man and the 85mm f/1.2 were made for each other, He returns some awesome images and I am sure Steve will do the same.

Good luck with the lens Steve, I am very jealous..:p

So exactly what is a "collector"? To me it means someone who doesn't use their equipment but just stores it for the satisfaction of owning it. I've never met one yet. Or is a "collector" someone who owns better equipment than you but doesn't live up to the artistic standards you feel are required to use such equipment?

There are good photographers and not so good. There's no shame in being either.

Every one of us would like to be a better photographer and every one of us would like to own better equipment. I think that's a fair generalization.

Oh, and great set of lenses!

Trinity works for me as it is a nice group of lenses. Thing is it could apply to several sets and is probably a fairly personal choice. For instance I'd always take a 24 over a 35. I feel it would also only become a true holy trinity in the hands of a very capable photographer. Otherwise its the photography version of a trophy wife. :)

So what about the 16-35, 24-70, 70-200 IS as the other Holy Trinity, or the 17-40, 24-105, 70-200 as the Holy Trinity Lite.

I make do most of the time with the 24 2.8 and 85 1.8. The, umm, yin and yang or something.

And which lens is the holy grail? :) 200 1.8?
