So what about the 16-35, 24-70, 70-200 IS as the other Holy Trinity, or the 17-40, 24-105, 70-200 as the Holy Trinity Lite.

I believe that someone referred to the 16-35, 24-70, and 70-200 IS as "the three sisters of the red stripe".

Trinity must be reserved for primes, and Matrix characters with leather outfits. :)

So if the 'trinity' is reserved for primes, should we come up with the 'Fab Four' for zooms?

What's funny is that Schmoezel (sp?) began stopping down his 85L to f/1.8 and beyond... thus equating it with the much cheaper non L

It's all just a myth... An excuse... A blind loyalty to a brand! Canon... L... cut yourself on sharpness... blah! Aspherical floating low dispersion fluorite optic...

21mm distagon... 50/1.4 planar... 135 f/1.8 SMC...

It's the post processing, lighting, composition and the subject that make the difference.

Yeah, but given identical processing, lighting, composition and subject you are going to get a nicer picture from the 135 L than the 135 SF. Whether that difference is worth the money is a matter of opinion but it will be there.

While The 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse leave me drooling, I suspect they would look kinda strange with my little 350D hanging off the end...

Nice lenses, all of them.

I'll take my sweaty palms off the shop window soon, I promise!

I'm currently trying to downsize my gear list, posts like this make it difficult. Enjoy your new lenses.

I'm taking pictures of everything, so go ahead and take this place away from me.

To be honest I disagree. Sure, I'm no pro reviewer, but from end results with the lenses I have owned there is a notable improvement in color, contrast, CA, etc with the more expensive lenses I currently use (a couple of /f4 Ls and a couple of non L primes) compared to other supposedly decent lenses I've had. My 85 1.8 is a truly great lens and provides consistantly top results. Better than any other lens I've had that covers that range or near it. The "put it a f/8 and all problems vanish" thing just doesn't work for me.

IMHO the 85/1.8 is one of the few non-L lenses that holds up to the best 'L' primes. I used to own the 85/1.2 FD version (non-AF) and it was just awsome, but it's out of my range now - I rationalise that it's too heavy etc etc but really it's just to dear!

So Schmoezel left the 200mm f/1.8 out of the "trinity" and neither does it rate as an apocolyptic rider... :( :( :( It's heart breaking really :)

That's an easy one. The 200mm F/1.8 is...

Nirvana

...hope the PC police don't come after me

I guess Nirvana would be better, as the Messiah is considered part of the Trinity, or at least the Holy one.

Nice capture, Steve. Usually, those holy things disappear when the cameras come out. :)
