Has anyone tried the cokin style filter holders on ebay? I see them packaged in a kit with the holder, a collection of adapter rings and some filters. I assume the filters will be low quality, but the cost of the kit with the adapter rings is cheap enough that I could spend more money on higher quality filters and still be ahead.

Well, the thing is that Cokin offers the highest quality filters in the "P" size (84 mm), and they're not all that well thought of. Once you get up to the 100 mm (4") square or rectangular filters, even Cokin's holder is competitive with the Lee or HiTech, so you might as well go with them.

I had one of these knockoffs. The filter is terrible particularly.the ND, the nd grad is better though. As for the filter holders they are absolute rubbish, its hard to rotate the holder while mounted unless you choose to not fully screw in the adapter ring. And its really difficult to take the holder off if you choose not unscrew the whole thing. Or else you could risk damage to your lens front element.

The normal square Cokin filter holder is fairly low grade, so an knock-off copy should not be too different.

Other than the word Cokin on the holder there is no difference from the knock off to the Cokin. As for the filters, I have tried a few of the knock off's namely the GND's, they are ok for amatuer work but nothing more. If you want the good stuff you got to drop some bills.
