I usually go out to this area of the Everglades (Chekika) to de-stress after having one of "those" days at work. Today, Mother Nature provided many photo opportunities for me. The following is a sample of the wildlife that I witnessed.

Please enjoy!

Jack, this sounds like a fisherman's story, but would you believe that the big one got away? I pulled up on a 3+ foot brown and orange snake with black lines running along the full length of its body. It went deep into the brush before I was able to manually focus on it. After a very brief discussion with myself, I decided not to go after it.

LOL! Good decision. A 3 footer is about 2'11" bigger than I care to deal with.

Great pics..

Like the one with the gator walking on the road. Like it's just taking a little stroll!

Nice shots, how were the skeeters/no-see-ums/horse flies up there this time of year? I normally don't go in the park until after the first cold front rolls through in the fall.

Bill, the mosquitoes are HORRIBLE! When I was crouched down near the shallow water taking the pics of the snake in the tree, I thought they were going to carry me away! I need to take mosquito repellent with me next time.

On a side note, I was run off the road Friday evening and totaled my truck. When the ambulance arrived, the urgency to get me into the ambulance was not because of my injuries, but because the mosquitoes were unbearable for everyone at the scene of the accident. How's that for a preview of what the summer mosquito problem is going to be like this year?
