One major problem with the geared slidebar is , I don't use a tripod for outdoor macroshots- it's too clumsy for my style of shooting, but I do use one for inside set shots of flowers so can try using my macrostage for that, I can quite happily move that in 1mm increments, I'll just have to use the focus ring for focus stacking instead of the macrostage.
I've just installed stereophotomaker so hopefully no more vertical misalignments
