I know this isn't the right forum for this, but I posted in Performing Arts Talk and there just isn't much traffic there.

Plus I kind of know you guys a bit and trust your experience and expertise...

So...

Just received my approved photo credentials for 2012 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest in Atlanta.
This will be my first major event.
I will be allowed to photograph the first three songs of the following bands...
Anthrax
Motorhead
Slayer
Slipknot

I'm very confident that I will be able to produce great shots.
My only concern is protecting my gear.
Any advice on protecting my gear while in the photo pit would be appreciated?
My main concern is flying liquids.

FYI: I was extremely honest in my application for this photo pass. I simple said I have the just released Canon 5D markIII and Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC and wish to reveiw this gear in a major concert environment for POTN members :) They approved!

Thanx for your help!

I would use a 1D series and not worry about the flying liquids. What I would be more concerned about would be protecting myself from those flying liquids.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Carry some wet wipes with you in case any of the liquid is sticky. You don't have to worry about that camera getting wet. You have no idea how soaked I have gotten my 7D. Although I might be inclined to use an L lens with a good, sealed filter of some sort.

If you must know...
