(Air) Get A Bigger Bucket!

It's wildfire season here in the Southwest and the powers that be decided they needed to bring in the DC-10 tanker from 10 Tanker Air Carrier...

Lovely shots and love the forward / back viewpoints ...we could have done with one of those here with our fire season, now passed.

Interesting to note the difference in wing flex from when loaded and when not - not as much flex as one may have expected (if this were a modern jet, of course, the flex would be considerably more I imagine).

We were discussing that while waiting for her to return this afternoon...

Water* is two pounds per gallon heavier than fuel (8lbs/gal Vs 6lbs/gal) but we figure that since she has no interior (either seats nor tanks like a KC-10), she's still well below max gross takeoff weight even with a load of slurry.

(*I do not know the specific gravity of the fire fighting chemicals...)

I was going to ask what the capacity of the DC-10 tanker is but then I realized.... I have the technology. It holds 12,000 US gallons of water or fire retardant. Only the Evergreen 747 supertanker holds more: 20,500.

I would like to know as well. Im guessing by some high output hose. Wonder how long it takes to fill and what the rate of climb is when all that water is dropped! Great shots
