Ok an update, tried again after work last night, and I think it's US for sure. Took a picture of the kettle in kitchen, it was very dark even with ISO up to high, then when taking other pictures a 'ghosting' effect was visible, even though the now mostly pink screen. I will send it back Monday to HDEW cameras in London. They have asked only for the body, I.e no batt, memory card, etc etc.

Some advice... If they don't just replace it, and send ur to canon for repair what kind of turn around is likely, I'm just starting out, but looks like a full sensor malfunction to me? Should I be asking for a full replacement due to the camera bring faulty out of box??? And should canon be liable for my postage costs, it might be 20 quid or so with insurance etc?

Cheers

Under UK distance selling regulations, you're entitled to cancel the deal within seven days so if HDEW refuse a replacement (which I don't think for a minute they will) I suggest you return everything, effectively canceling the contract and start again. As far as I'm aware, HDEW do not usually use Canon service as they have an arrangement with an approved repairer.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Get another one. Be happy and go shooting. Good luck!

I've had a 5D2 and a 5D3 from Hdew and had good service from start to finish. I'm sure they will sort you out with either a replacement or a guaranteed fix, if it's a faulty one I think Canon or Hdew will sort out your postage costs too. Hope you get it sorted asap.

Any chance you are using live view and in manual mode? An underexposed picture would cause the screen to appear grey or could cause the "ghosting" effect you are seeing in the kettle pictures. First thing that popped in my head.

I would have suggested shooting in green box or P modes to see what happens when you snap a shot. I would have also suggested going outside and taking test shots. In any case, it will be interesting to see the outcome here. ;)

i 2nd teamspeed here. it almost sounds like an ID ten T error. :p

first test shot is probably an overexposure of something. 2nd shot is underexposure of a kettle. OP might be in M mode from the git go without knowing what its for or how to use it.

Well, to be honest, the pinkish screen is an issue, I believe. I don't know how you could recreate that.
