Full Frame!

The 24L lens hood (EW-83DII) will fit but will vignette on a full frame body. I use that hood on my 17-40 (the 17-40 and 16-35 use the same EW-83E hood) on a 1.3 crop with no problem but on my full frame it causes problems.

Just to be sure, what version of the 16-35 are you referring to?

On a film or "full-frame" digital camera, you cannot use a longer hood without vignetting as has been stated.

When using my original model 16-35 f/2.8L (77mm filter thread size) on my 20D or 7D, I use a Canon EW-83DII hood which provides a bit more stray light protection than the EW-83E hood that was supplied with the lens.

Skip, Version 1......

My 16-35 Ver. 1 is amazing, no need to upgrade to II... :-)

I don't use Filters on my Lenses, but for this lens i need a filter because i use it without a hood because the original hood just SUCKS! lol

I'm not bothered about looks. As long as it works (and mine does), thats fine.

It's humongous and doesn't block a lot of light.... also unlike Canon's other hoods, you can't set it down flat!!! I never use mine. Makes it more discreet anyhow.

This. And it offers little protection. Not to mention where on earth are you supposed to store that satellite dish? It takes up as much room in the camera bag as the lens. I have no idea where the one for my 17-40 is, I bought the hood for the 24L and it worked fine on apsc/h as mentioned above, but no good on FF. Needless to say I haven't gone looking for that enormous original hood in the two years I have had my 5D, and I have used a hood on every other lens I have ever owned.
