Does anyone use this lens for concert photography? If so, is it a good alternative to the 35mm f/1.4L lens?

i wouldn't call it an alternative to the 35 1.4 but if you can't afford the 1.4 its an option. Vastly different in terms of iq and build quality. If you're using a crop the sigma 30 is a good mid point if you get a good one.

Also based on my limited experience in shooting concerts i generally wouldn't recommend a 35, that focal length on ff is very limiting in a concert environment

I fine the 50mm very limiting. Yea, well with it being an L series, it is going to be very different compared to the f/2.0. My 24-70mm should be dead by now but luckily isn't

What do you hope to get from a 35 2.0 that you can't get from the 24-70? Obviously apart from the faster aperture.

I have the 35 1.4 and I LOVE the focal length. I think it's my favorite actually.

Its a little bit too pricey for my liking, though I do see your point. I was looking at the Sigma 30mm 1.4 until someone told me about the vignetting problem, particularly at 1.4 on my full frame camera
