Printer counter reset?

I have just found these instructions to reset the ink reservoir counter on a Canon Pixma MP130:

Press Menu > Scan > Copy > Scan to enter Service mode.

Now use the ">" key to select NVRAM then press OK.

Next, set ABS-M and ABS-P levels to zero before pressing Stop to exit.

There are also instructions for replacing the waste pads but these are longer winded, I'll post them if anyone really needs to know.

I use an Epson R2880 and as my previous printer bit the dust because the counter said it was finished, I'd love to know how to reset the R2880 if anyone knows.

Resetting the counter is generally not a good idea, as continued use can damage the printer, when the tank is full the printer needs to be taken to an authorized service center and be replaced there. I've already done so on my fairly old R2400 and it's working fine.

Thats contrary to the advice given with the resetting instructions. Put simply it claims that the manufacturer (Canon in this case) is erring on the extremely cautious side and that a reset when it first refuses to operate will do no harm at all.
