Sorry to ask, but really short of time as I said I'd take some shots at a Christening on Thursday. By then I need to learn my new camera including a speedlite. New to DSLR's apart from using a Sony A77 [as a point and shoot for 2 weeks].

I've read / viewed loads of videos but although great for the detail, what I need is some fundamental concept understanding.

Q. Am I right if I make a load of changes including custom configs and save them with the Registration function are these saved to say C1-3 [my choice]
Q2. If I then set mode dial to C1 tomorrow will it pull up all these settings I registered?
Q3. If I then make a few more enhancements/changes [Say tomorrow] to the config settings and shoot away but do not Register these when I move the mode dial to say C2 and come back to C1 are the on the fly changes forgotten [I hope so]?
Q4. If I turn the Mode dial to C1 tomorrow and hopefully all the settings I made and registered will appear; but then make some changes to the Custom Config settings and then go into the 'registration function and save them as C1, will this ammended total configuration now overwrite my initial C1 settings and become the new defacto C1 settings? Or do I have to delete the original ones and resave the now enhanced settings?
Q5 When I register these settings - does the camera look at every single setting red and orange and blue setting and save everything to say C1,or 2, or 3 or does it only save some of them say the orange Custom config settings.
Q6. If my thinking is correct what makes the camera forget un unsaved/unregistered changes is it a] moving off say C1 or is it b] turning off the camera?

I'd be eternally grateful if some kind person could help me out - not relishing facing a screaming baby and delivering fuzzy, underexposed, pics!

One other question to pull up the histogram what button is it? Looked everywhere in the manual but can't seem to find it.

Q5 When I register these settings - does the camera look at every single setting red and orange and blue setting and save everything to say C1,or 2, or 3 or does it only save some of them say the orange Custom config settings.

I can't remember the the colours off the top of my head, but yes it saves all the AF, shooting settings, & custom functions

Q6. If my thinking is correct what makes the camera forget un unsaved/unregistered changes is it a] moving off say C1 or is it b] turning off the camera?

Once you move away from the mode you're in or turn the camera off it'll forget the changes unless you've specifically gone in and saved (overwritten) them.

One of the buttons down the left changes what the rear screen views by default. mine is not in front me, Info I think it is.

It's great to understand how the C modes work. They're one of the most underrated & underused benefits.

Q - Yes
Q2 - Yes
Q3 - Yes
Q4 - Yes, you do not have to delete and resave
Q5 - It saves everything
Q6 - a)Yes, b) Yes

Press the INFO button to bring up the histogram - you may have to press it a number of times to bring up the histogram display you require and pressing INFO button scrolls through the various options.

Eternally grateful - especially as the dear amazon reseller, had the enelopes "In Stock" last Wednesday when I ordered, still has them "In Stock" but still has not yet even Dispatched them!
So I'm going to be under pressure to work how how to use the wireless flash - configure it, test it and then recharge the batteries for an early start on Thursday.
So both of your help is REALLY appreciated.

Also be aware that if the camera goes into sleep mode, and you wake it up, any changes you made from the C1 configuration that was not re-registered back to C1 will be lost. It will effectively as if you moved from C1 to C2 or something else, and back to C1.

Thanks that would have caught me out for sure!
But it's logical.

I'm assuming any changes to P Mode will likewise be lost as soon as one moves off P or it invokes sleep mode, or the camera is switched off?
i.e. if I want to save any of these changes I need to save/register them them as one of my C 1-3's.

Not sure about P, I think it might leave whatever you had last there, ie. it is a real-time configuration saving each time you leave it. I don't know for certain though as I rarely use it.
