Nice edit Raptor. Would this be a Bark?
I think it could use some more sharpening.

From Wiki:

"The USCGC Eagle (WIX-327) (ex-SSS Horst Wessel) is a 295-foot (90 m) barque used as a training cutter for future officers of the United States Coast Guard. She is one of only two active commissioned sailing vessels in American military service, the other being the USS Constitution."

Looks a little soft, and a bit too tight in the frame. Get your sensor cleaned!

Apart from the dust, it's not a camera fault most likely. Work on your exposure, check which metering mode your in

That's a little extreme sending it to the shop for dust. Get a blower and/or a sensorpen. They're much cheaper, faster, and in many cases safer.

I agree.

I would like to add something else. I don't think the composition is quite working for me. I think that the framing is just really too tight. This is indeed a nice shot of an amazing looking ship, but it's not in context with anything else.

And it's not that it even NEEDS to be in context with anything else. But the way that this was composed and cropped is just making me want to see what's just outside the boundaries of the photograph.

This is just really tight and uncomfortable...claustrophobic even.

Then again...this IS an old-timey ship, so maybe that feeling is totally appropriate given the subject matter. This photograph is really making me want to be able to break out of the photograph. And if I lived on that ship, I'm sure I'd want to be able to get the hell off it whenever possible.

Anyway, I'm not even saying that's a problem or a flaw. It's just the way I'm reacting to the photograph. Others may or may not get the same emotional reaction. And even among those who DO get the same emotional reaction, many sure might think that that contributes to the photograph.

here is the original though I added some fill light, I cropped it tight to try and remove all the small craft.

I don't know what software you use to edit, but you could clone out the other boats. I tried an edit to do just that. I also extended the right side of the image using content aware fill for more space at the front of the ship.

If you'd like to see an edit I did with the above adjustments, please turn on "image editing OK" on in your profile.

As usual NavyDoc you pulled off a great edit, but why not extend the canvas to the right and crop some off the left?
