Selling 24-105mm to get a 70-200 L or a 100-400mm L?

Would this be a wise decision with my T3 camera? There have been times I needed more zoom and I couldn't. Could the 70-200 or the 100-400 still be used as a walkaround lens? I know they will be pretty heavy..

You're not going to want to use either of those two lenses as a walk around on a crop sensor camera. You could do it moreso with the 70-200, but it's certainly far from ideal. I know personally I would miss having something on the wider end while walking around.

Would keeping your 24-105 and buying a 100-400 and something like a tamron 17-50 be an option. your covered front 17-400 then?

To use the trite car metaphor, it's like comparing a sedan and a pickup truck. Both will get you somewhere but each one has strengths that the other simply can't replicate.

As a general purpose lens the 24-105 is probably more valuable than a long one. But then if you only short sports or birds, for example, then sure you'd be better off with the 70-200 or 100-400. Neither one is a thoroughly suitable replacement for the other.

If you don't desperately need IS or f/2.8 (that is, if most of your shooting is outdoors) then the 70-200 f/4L is pretty reasonable. You might be able to buy that while keeping the 24-105.

I have 24-105mm and 70-200mm resident on different bodies and I "walk round" with either combination. I find the trick is to look for pictures that suit whichever lens I've chosen to take with me and not to worry about the ones I can't get.

I have the 24/105,70/200 and 100/400.
The 70/200 hardly ever gets used since I got a sling strap to carry the 100/400.
The only reason I keep it is due to its light weight and portabilty.

I know Mirfield very well - my wife used to work in the KMC Cash office there. Also, I used to play piano at the Marmaville, if you remember it.

I live about half a mile from the Marmaville,its now being converted into flats
