Beautiful Shot! This really illustrates the difference between pre-WWII fighters and those developed during the war.

Very sharp, but 1/4000 sec. is just too fast for prop planes. See the "Airshow guys - prop freeze?" & other links in post #2 of: Shooting airshows in Manual

They were contemporaries...

Perfect framing and exposure but yeah, like Frank said, way too fast on the shutter speed...

You can get acceptable prop blur at 1/500 and the results just get better the slower you can (comfortably) go. Better "acceptable blur" and a sharp shot than a shaky, blurry mess with a full prop arc.

As mentioned, I wish there was more prop blur. Nice shot, none the less.

I get what you guys are saying about prop blur. As this was my first Air Show, I was being very conservative. The 1D4 is a very powerful tool and to my eye it takes a minimal hit in IQ up to ISO 4000. In the future, I plan on throttling it back.

What appeals to me in this image is the cloudy background. It's subtleness highlights the Zero and the gradation prevents it from being too boring. A blue sky may have detracted from the Mustang. It wasn't anything that I specifically planned, it just turned out to be a "happy accident" as Bob Ross would say.
