Camera only knows an exposure...

Photographer has to determine the exposure.

^^^This... I was thinking of Modes other than Manual. It was late and my brain was defragging.

Jay is always good for steering a thread in the right direction. There's a general rule of thumb with aviation photography, props/rotors = need blur, jets = shutter speed UP! With jets, you can still turn it down to get motion blur in the background as well. The idea is to convey a sense of motion in the machines. I was there on saturday shooting some of the helicopters for a magazine assignement. You can see my thread here: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1198047

Even though I was only using a 5D MKII and a 70-200, I still nailed some sharp shots from long distances (using a really heavy crop is post!) and a shutter speed between 1/80th and 1/160th. BTW, twin blade rotors are hard to get decent blur out of!

nice, my neighbor has one of those Cobra's - he said they're pretty rare. His has that same paint job and that rotating gun on the front. He let me sit in it (I've got the pictures somewhere here), it's a tight cockpit.

Um...not to hijack the thread, but ... you've got an interesting neighborhood, sounds like !

It would be an interesting thing to bring up at a party - "oh yeah, I'm flying the Cobra home so I'd better stick to the one beer..."

I'm mainly here for the snacks
