I shoot cars, so, naturally my wife wants me to shoot my kids pictures. I bought some backdrops she liked. What I do not have is a softbox or stand for one. I would like to order maybe a 24x24 soft box for a Canon speedlite. I have both a 580exII and a 430exII with ETTL wireless triggers. Any ideas?

I would like a decent quality, but I don't want to break the bank doing it.

I looked at some on Cowboy Studio, Adorama, etc... want some recommendations from those who may have used specific ones. Thanks!

Try bouncing the flashes into white panels.

what is considered breaking the bank. you should post what your budget is for a softbox.

QBox 24 is highly recommended. There's also the Westcott Apollo 28" softbox, but it's limited in movement.

or as mentioned above, you can get large white foamcore boards for cheap, bounce the flashes off those.

Yeah, I have thought of that. The room I will use is my bedroom, which has white ceilings and white or light colored walls. The flooring is a darker wood.

I see the Softlighter is popular here....I did a quick looksee on Amazon and saw this.

Frequently Bought Together
Photek 36" Softlighter, Diffusing Umbrella with Black Cover. +
Westcott 750 Photo Basics 7.0-Foot Light Stand +

I own the Qbox 24 and am quite happy with it. If you search the "Small Flash and Studio Lighting" thread you should be able to gleen enough info to make an educated purchase. Here is a link to a LENGTHY thread on the Qbox 24. https://photography-on-the.net …=817726&highlight=Qbox+24

The softlighter is good. It all depends on how much you intend to use this stuff. You can find softlighter knockoffs for $20 each and they are fine for occasional use. Dont be afraid of shoot through umbrellas either.

nice 60" reversible umbrella is versatile. use as a shoot through, bounce, or close it down when bouncing for a softbox effect.

I went with THIS (external link). According to the link 110yd posted they seem to be good products stood behind by their company. I aim to see what I can do with the new things. Thanks for the guidance!

I've got the Apollo... I do like it, but as mentioned above it does have a movement limitation (vertical tilting) as is. However, I think I am going to end up getting some grip equipment (Avenger grip head and extension arm) to remedy the issue though ;)
