Basically as the title says, I shoot 90% landscape photography, at an advanced amateur/semi pro level, I do shoot some sports occasionally... and I was going to sell the 40d but am wondering if it would be better for this type of photography? I'm going to guess not because the 5d2 is probably sharper/cleaner even accounting for the cropping in vs. 1.6x crop factor.

I know the main advantage would be to be able to shoot with 2 bodies (40d w/ telephoto, and 5d2 with mid range zoom), I'm not really planning on having any gigs where I actually need that functionality. Other than that, any reason to keep the 40d? Larger file size on the 5d2 is also not a concern.

Longer you keep your old DSLR body, cheaper it goes ;)

If you just let it collect dust or need the money then sell as there may be no need otherwise why give up a great camera that can be an adequate back up?? It all depends on your need if your 40 d is in good shape it will not net you very much. What you do in your other 10% may matter kids or other faster moving things the better frame rate and focusing may be worth it to hold on to. But if you don't need it you don't need it.

I am shooting pro these days, but had a 5D2, 7D and 40D. I found I wasn't using my 40D at all. I let it go. It was hard, but I don't really miss it. You have only 2. For a pro, that's a must. But if you have a little P&S you can grab just in case your 5D isn't enough, you have it. I now use my G12 as my 3rd body and it works very well.

My children and grandchildren are the reason, but it's the passion that drives me to get the perfect image of everything.
