With all the new gear hitting the streets and some new lenses, my old stuff still just makes me think I'm happy with what I got.

Why lowly? I just bougt a used 1DMkIIn back in April. And, I am loving the results I get from it.

And, this after purchasing a used 5Dc back in February. Same feelings on the results.

The newest camera I own is a 50D and I have given that to my daughter. Everyone else is moving to the latest and greatest while I move backward. And, I love both of my "new to me" cameras.

Another "I agree totally" here. My everyday camera has been a 1D MKII for about the last six months and I absolutely love it's performance and image quality. I also just bought a 5DC from a fellow forum member (after seeing the beautiful results others were getting from it) and am awaiting delivery today/tomorrow. I've delegated my t2i, which is newer technology, to my wife and daughter. I couldn't be happier with the bodies in my kit.

I still miss my 1D Classic and Mark II. My 7D is just begging me to bring aboard a 1DS MII soon so I can return to nirvana. There is just something magical about owning a tank that drives like a porsche.

I suppose if I was doing this as a profession i would need the latest to keep clients happy or had an abundance of cash lying around, but is not the case, being a casual hobbyist I want to get the best out of what I have. My 5D surpasses image quality of my mkiin, as u can see in these pics, and other times it seems to be on par.. seems I am grabbing the mkii because of its faster speed on everything. But as thorrules says even the 1DC created some outstanding pics, i've had 4 of them and its a killer cam.

Oh no i do love it, as I do my 5dc, i would love the 5dc even more if it wasnt so damn slow, but its images make up for its speed. I find myself using the 1Dmkiin more as its responsiveness is incredible. My t3i I usualy just play with it for the video, its images dont impress me much.

actually on a relative basis the results one gets from a 1d2 is extraordinary...for a few hundred dollars one can get results that rival the best current camera's out there and i know because i currently have the 1d4 and 5d3 and had both the 1d2 and 1d2n.....

I have yet to find the body that made me feel fully satisfied until the 5D3. I think it will be the body that I keep for a long, long time... Even after the newer models come out. I loved the 7D but wanted FF... The 5D2 was great but the AF sucked. Now the 5D3 combined both and then some into my perfect body.

No need to be tempted for newer tech if you don't want/need it! Save money that way too! :D

thats an answer that could be explained further, (fully satisfied) what led u to feeling this way, image quality, focus, speed, smaller body, pls give some insight, u mentionef ff, and i can understand ff, but what i've found on full frame is wa is not truly wa, i can go 12mm on my 10-22 on my mkiin which is like 15.6 mm and ff anything less than say a 16-35, excluding the sigma 12-24 ur running into fish eye results, a 3.5 mm difference is not alot to jump about' is it the actual pixel difference u refer to for cropping purposes thanks.

Sure, no problem!

I have owned (since I started) the Rebel XSI, T1i, 7D, 5D, 5D2 and 5D3.

The rebels are what I learned on basically. The 7D was my first "pro-style" body. Loved the ergonomics, the performance, etc... The AF was excellent. I used it for everything! I bought a 5D to use along side it a year later or so when I was doing some events that helped with two bodies. I simply fell in love with the 5D. The detail, low noise, rendering, etc... Over the 7D images blew me away. But because the 5D was so old, it lacked much of the tech I liked about the 7D.

I sold both and ended up with the 5D2. Used it alone for the next year with great results. I had no problem using outer AF points, as long as they were in one-shot. Loved the high ISO performance and IQ over anything I have used previously. But I did miss having the ability to use point AF, expanded/zone, etc... Customizing the AF to cater to what I was shooting, etc... Looking back at the images I generally shoot at amusement parks, the 5D2 did well but had trouble with servo. They would be sharp, but never critically sharp in servo. If a ride support or something got in the way, the whole sequence would be thrown off.

The 5D3 came out and I was blown away by the specs. It was everything I wanted, and then some. Similar resolution, improved video integration, ever better high ISO performance (most of my shooting is probably at ISO 400 and above), the new microadjust (wide/tele), ergonomics, etc...

It was enough change over the 5D2 that made it worthwhile, and the performance has been incredible. The high ISO images are simply amazing, the AF is stunning and nothing really holds me back with this body anymore. The IQ is there, the AF is there, etc... There is nothing that I feel that would be better, unlike all the other bodies I have used. No matter how much I loved them.

I am confused on your wide angle statement with FF... I find the FF wide angle options much better than the crop sensors. I owned almost every WA option for my 7D with the Canon 10-22 being the best... (which would be 16mm on FF) - So your options include the 17-40, 16-35, 14L, etc... Quite a few options. For myself, I use the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 and my 24-105L for my wide work. The 14mm on FF would be like 8.75mm on a crop, which the only lens that I know of that does that is the Sigma 8-16. So you have plenty of really wide options with FF sensors.

To give you an idea of what I generally shoot, most of it is servo along with some other stuffs. 75% of my shooting I do at amusement parks with some shooting at the airport, events I go to, the zoo, etc... Pretty random stuff.

The canon 10-22 after taking the plug out of the back I can use it on my 1DMKIIn at 12mm so in effect i'm getting 15.6mm on the 1*3 crop, FF if ur using a 14mm is a difference of 1.6mm not a real jump in mm, however ur getting the benifit of 2.8 versus 3.5, now the 8mm u refer to is almost 8mm difference, have not used it, so have no idea of its optics or vinginetting.

By the way those are some fantistic pictures,

But the 14L and Samyang 14mm are not fish-eye lenses. You will get some distortion, sure, but they are correctable. Both those night exposures were taken with my 14mm lens.
