Anyone know the sweet spot for this lens? f/5.6 or f/7.1? I'm taking it to a car show and in charge of getting some coverage with some of the ladies.. I normally rock the 60D and the 16-35 but have the 5Dc and pancake with me all weekend. >>

This lens is quite sharp throughout its whole range.

People who haven't used this lens will say it's no good for portraits. I've been quite happy with it for just about anything I've used it for.

Both of these are with 6D, 40mm Pancake lens, handheld w/flash, high iso shots. The subject is the beautiful Ducati 899 Panigale.

I have the Reikan FoCal testing software and I ran the "Aperture Sharpness Test" on my copy of the 40mm on my 6D. As many have pointed out it is remarkable in that the sharpness is not peaking in one or two f stops. That said it is best at f/7.7 on my copy. It is cool how flat the curve is from about f/3.5 to about f/11.

Love this little jewel.

Otis

It is a neat little lens. I like it for the compactness. Not crazy sharp wide open. But as you can see from my Danbo shot it's pretty good. I'll have to run some test shots to see where mine accelerates in sharpness.

Mine stopped focusing the other day. I was really upset. I power cycles the camera. Nothing. Took the lens of the body. Nothing. Then it finally came back. Found out about the firmware update. Now I need to find a 5D3, etc.

I'm in Canada. Isn't that weird!
