If you don't mind, would you care to explain your lighting setup for the first shot?

I used a huge reflector (black side) for the background. This was shot at a longer end of the 70-200 (too lazy to look up what mm) and shot at a high speed sync at 1/2000 I believe. I used a two light setup: A soft box with a 580exII on the left and a Gridded Beauty dish on the opposite side (slightly to the right of the camera) and used a 580EX II as well.
The reason why I shot this at a high speed shutter is because I didn't want to have any ambient light, just the flash light to fall on my subject. The beauty dish creates beautiful and soft diffused light. I used a grid to control the light direction since I was trying to avoid having a light falling on the black background.

Thanks, that's very interesting.
I was curious, because you said that you didn't want any ambient lighting by using HSS, why is the top image slightly warmer than the second image. Was that intentional? or was your color balance off?

Was chatting with a friend about the pancake - he's a photog, but strictly P&S - and he asked me over and over, "What is the purpose of this lens?". I kept trying to him that the first purpose of the pancake is to be diminutive in size. Finally, I emailed him a photo of it on my 5d (see below) and his reply was, "It looks like a normal camera." To which I replied, "Exactly!"

Great little lens, btw. I'm starting a new project where I'll be interviewing and photographing artists and I think this pancake will be my environmental portrait lens.
