Some excellent shots in here and also a great idea to start a thread on Owls. Here is a shot of a Burrowing Owl I was fortunate enough to photograph earlier this year.

Hilarious! I just got a few yesterday! This Barred is a bane to the robins this time of year, didn't get exactly what I wanted, but I also had to wade through salal to even get this!

Ian and Craig....its just a matter of time..I have gone two years without seeing an owl and then photographed 7 different species the following year. You just never know...


More nice images here ...keep them coming :-) ...Here is a trio on the Northern Hawk Owl...this one from three Winters ago...in a place called...Moose Creek :-)

Lots of really great shots in this thread. Kudos to all. There's an owl (not sure what type, but he's HUGE) who lives in a vent on the top of a water tower near my job, but he only seems to come out at night. I've tried setting my camera up on a tripod and making owl sounds to try to lure him out, but he never goes for it.

if you describe how he looks or link to a picture of one from Google, we can ID him and then you can get a sound file of the actual call for this kind of owl. i can tell you that if you play the right call, he will react.

ScubsDude, when I think of "huge" and Owls I always picture a Great Horned Owl (one below).
