Great thread! Some really awesome photos here.

These are some wild owls I've photographed:

Great gray owl in Sax-Zim bog:

Northern hawk owl, same area:

Northern saw-whet owl, in someone's back yard just a few miles from my house:

Barred owl, in my back yard (shot through dirty patio door glass):

I also volunteer with raptors, so get to handle different species of owl, up close and personal quite often!

Thank you! It's odd that those were the only owls I've ever photographed (even after 4 years and probably 100K bird photos).

Pete, your images are just spectacular! I don't think I've seen any of these before today, but wow. Your sense of timing and the lighting is quite exceptional with perfect execution. Its clear that you spend time thinking carefully about your shots and that you have a real talent for composition. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent images Liz and how lucky to be able to handle a GHO...its reassuring to know that these and other birds can be rescued and rehabilitated.

Talaska :-) what an adorable little Sawhet...I have never seen a fledgling in real life...must be quite a thrill.

Herse a Barred Owl from Presquille Provincial Park on Lake Ontario...we saw two Barreds within 100 yards of one another. There were as many as 12 reported in the park that Winter...

Having chased birds around is some pretty inhospitable places, it is with a tad bit of guilt that I confess I snapped these hanging out our bedroom window. Birding will never be like this again, I'm sure. First GHO spotting in Torrance, CA for us.
