Hope this isnt a redundant question..but i just broke my nikon 5700 and decided to buy a rebel 350 xt. I was looking into to getting a better lense than the one that come with the kit. Those IS lenses than canon sells are expensive, but intrigue me. Any suggestions on what size i should purchase, knowing that most of the use of my camera is for glamour/nudes/ portraits ??? I cant afford to buy more than one extra lens..so therefore im asking you knowledeable people..thanks!

First of all, you don't need IS for glamour shots.

But, you can get affordable portrait lens. Starting with the

50 1.8 (which goes for less than 100 USD with shipping factored in)
50 1.4 (about 320 to 340 with shipping factored in)
85 1.8 (330 to 370 with shipping factored in)

There's some options. The 50 and 85 make a good combo pair.

thanks for your recomendations...i think i need to find some literature on the lens sizes and what that 1.8..2.8 stuff means.. i know alot of my photos where i shot two models together come out blurry if theres movement..and im not sure how to correct it..I thought the image stabilizing lenses just general might help if i dont want to be stuck to a tripod...while moving around two moving models..

50 on most digital cameras is perfect for glamour shots. And very affordable as well.

The smaller the number, the less depth of field(more background blur).

This is with my 50 f/1.4 lens.
For example, this shot was at f/1.4 very thin.

Here's a glamour shot at I believe f/2

Skinnyboy,

you might also take a look at the Tamron 28-75/2.8 XR DI or sigma 24-70/2.8 EX (about 350$ each). Great and sharp lenses and a lot better than the kit lens, but with the advantage of the zoom and the wider field of view.

I also love the 50/1.4 (and 50/1.8 ) for portraits, but I think it might not be wide enough to take in the whole body of your subject (which would be a shame, considering the image you posted  )

Best regards,
Andy

Skinnyboy, since you seem to be a little confused on apertures, as a suggestion, why not go to your loacl bookstore and look for a book on beginning photography? Books like that will have a chapter on apertures an depth of field as well as many of the basics. Also you migh want to frequent people forums like the one at this website or like at here http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/board/49 (external link)
There are lots of talented people out there that are very happy to give helpful hints.

I would stay away from IS and invest in a good tripod. You also need to make sure that you have a fairly fast lens, I would not buy anything slower than f2.8.
