I'm impressed too. If the future high-end Canon offerings make use of similar technology it will be very cool. I wish my 1D4 had the focusing features of this little Rebel (video focusing). I was a bit disappointed the new 5D3 didn't have the capability.

The image quality of the T4i is really quite impressive. For a small, light weight shooter this thing is ideal and I'm extremely pleased with it.

Here's a couple of pics taken at a local cruise night. I had my 3 year old son with me so I was only able to take a couple of pics due to my having to chase him around 98% of the time.

Minor editing done in Lightroom. Shot in JPG format with mostly default camera settings. I was in Av mode and manually setting ISO (200). I've found the auto ISO works great though. The lens is a 24-70L.

I'm still very pleased with the camera. The controls are easy to use, it feels great in my hand, and the image quality is exactly what I would expect.

Thanks for the great review. I also have the 1div and 7D that I use with the 300 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 II, but this t4i would make a nice small walk-about camera (a guy can't have too many cameras, right? :) )
I'll wait for reviews of the 18-135 STM. Maybe get the t4i and 18-135 STM in a kit.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

Is it possible to record video using manual focus then override that manual focus to rack focus? In other words, use manual focus, but tap the touch screen to focus on a different subject in the frame, and then have the camera continue in manual focus (i.e., the camera only focuses when you tap the screen). Hopefully that makes sense.

These few pics have piqued my interest. Might have to get one for walking around. Very nice looking photos.

I feel the same way. I am seriously thinking about replacing my 30D with this. I will probably wait for some reviews first which will hopefully start coming out soon!

I think you guys would like the T4i, I haven't really found anything I dislike with the exception of the inability of it to really properly focus with standard EF lenses in video mode. When I get a STM lens I'll do some more video tests and post the results. I hope to get a 40mm STM here in the next week or two. It would be ideal for what I want to use the camera for - that being a small portable shooter for trade shows and such.

Sounds like good news then since video is not a dealbreaker for me personally.

Anyone seeing any good deals out there on body only? I'm seeing $849 is pretty standard. The more I look at the camera, I think Canon could have a real nice seller on their hands. I'm impressed with what I've seen so far.

try phoning in to shops and asking what the best price they can give you is, got mine from a small store for $840 + taxes.
They also gave me a 16gb sdhc sp card for $25 that had a $49 dollar tag on it.
Total for card and cam after taxes 977.55 Canadian.

I got mine from Amazon for $849 and free shipping (no tax). That's the best deal by far that I've found.

For bros in Australia, this is the cheapest I've found so far:

www.cameraparadise.com (external link)

$756 is the listed price, but including delivery its $831.. however they have a $10 coupon "AU10UK5".. if you paste that into the coupon box when checking out you can get the camera for $821 delivered.
