I am on the verge of buying a T4i, and I have been researching my little heart weary trying to decide what camera to buy. What I'd LIKE to see, is the same exact photo being taken with 3 or 4 different cameras with the same settings. But I dont think I will find that.

OK, just for giggles I took a shot of some trees on the edge of my yard. Just to a)prove a point or b)confuse the crap out of everyone - one shot is with a T4i with my 70-200 f4 and the other shot is with an XSi body with my 55-250 IS. I set the focal length as close to equal as I could on both lenses using just the numbering on the lens, both shots are at ISO 200, 1/800 sec, f5.0, both were shot in RAW and processed identically in DPP.

You have the same stuff I have or had, I sold the Xsi when I picked up the T4i, I also have those same 2 lenses. Anyway, I'm going to say the top photo is taken with the t4i/70-200. Not much difference though.

I'll wait to see if a few more people wanna' guess then I'll tell. But yeah, I think they're amazingly close. That 55-250 is really a nice lens for the price.

The shadows are a whole lot darker in the 2nd one, whether that's the camera or the lens (or the PP) it is the first thing I noticed (after the, Wow these are two nearly identical and boring shots! lol)

Yep, T4i/70-200f4L is the second one. Xsi/55-250IS is the first one.

Other than the darker shadows in the one taken with the T4i/70-200 I'm not seeing much difference. (Maybe I'd better not let my wife see this comparison, I can already hear the lecture about not NEEDING to get better camera stuff all the time :p ).

Well shoot, anyone want to buy a barely used 70-200? ;)

I did a few very casual non-rigorous test shots between the 2 lenses right after I bought my 70-200, there were a few with a significant difference, others were very similar.

Yep, I agree.... One of the differences I see in these lenses is a drop off in light around the edges with the 55-250, BUT the lens correction in DPP does a pretty good job of taking care of that. I've also seen a little bit of fringing in certain conditions, but again DPP handled most of that. I won't claim that the 55-250 "great", but for the money it's darned good and I can foresee using it when I don't fell like lugging around the bigger f4.

Anyway, I've shot some more with the T4i and am getting used to the feel of it. At first I was having problems with the shrunken controls (I've got pretty big hands), but the fit and feel of the T4i is finally starting to grow on me. All I've done so far is set it for back button focus, figure out where I needed to go to adjust FEC, turn the dial to M and I'm good to go for photos. Now I'm thinking that I ought to at least learn the basics of shooting video with it since that capability is there, I'm not really into doing video but it won't cost me anything to give it a try.
