Canon 7D.. best ISO's for least noise? ( low light)

Hi all. Was wondering what ISO people like to use when the outside light starts to fail. I shoot birds and on my previous cameras I had certain go to ISO settings for fairly detailed shots but with minimal noise. I can't seem to decide with the 7D and always seem to be experimenting between 640, 800, 1000, 1600. Does anyone have a favourite ISO setting they use regularly? Thanks
