Here in Duluth we have had torrential rains causing sink holes big enough to swallow cars, flooded roads and destroyed basements. In fact my regular 15 minute commute turned into a 45 minute adventure this morning, barely wading through intersections with rivers pouring down from the hilly cross streets or being re-directed around sink holes by emergency personnel.

But last night, there was about a 30 minute break in the storm and I headed down to the lake to grab an image of the wall cloud about to swallow the area once again. Figured I'd post it up before I leave work to go do my best to re-direct flows of water around my walkout basement door before the next wave of rain comes in a couple hours.

Hopefully more to come, no promises today!

Breathtaking. I like the tones and gradients in this. And I love the way the water on the rocks rendered here.

Looks like you have another winner. Fabulous shot. KUDOS.

Lovely photo. The photos/coverage I have seen have been unreal. In Chisholm we received a lot of rain-but nothing like Duluth. I was up at Gooseberry Falls Sunday the water was running quicky. I can only imagine how it i!s now

Thanks guys! Cheri, you're right - some of that coverage was un-believeable...I can't believe the polar bear and seals swam out of their cages at the zoo! How'd you like to be the guy to first notice the polar bear is loose? Hope you and your family stayed safe and dry - we made out OK compared to most in Duluth, just a bit of warped flooring around the door in our walkout basement that will go down in a few days after things dry out.

Anyway, thanks for the comments everyone - appreciate it. Here's a couple more for the road:

This was the last shot I took right before the storm - it was pouring just after this. I messed up the focus and I used ISO 800 to stop the waves a bit so this won't end up on my (or anyone's) wall, but I liked it at web size.

And, the day after. The lake was filled with muck and run-off from the rivers and overflowing roads/shoreline so it was bright orange. It was a stark contrast between the vivid water, dark sky and sun starting to peek through. Again, not a wall hanger but I thought it was interesting since it looked so surreal:

Beautiful bonus images. I'd sure like to take a trip up your way one day...it's on my travel wishlist.

#2 not all wall hanger?! Man, I would love to take a photo this nice! I love the line of clouds near the water on number three

We came out fine from the rain. Just a little bit of standing water and small amounts of flooding. We have a lake that is about 50 feet from my doorstep--the levels are up a bit, but not flooded. People around here had water in their basements, but nothing like Duluth and the surrounding areas. I live in an apartment so we were safe.

I want to head up to Gooseberry this weekend, I checked the website and it seems open. I just hope the roads are...

Thanks for the comments! Hate to resurrect my own thread from almost a week with no activity, but here's one of the roads that collapsed near my house - thought at least someone might be interested:

I love the mood. It would certainly look nice in b&w. :)

Thanks guys!

Julian, I bet it would - unfortunately I have a terrible eye for getting the contrast right in B&W so I just play it safe and stick to color! :)
