What do you guys think of the buttons on the 60D? I got mine yesterday and alot of people have been complaining about them. I really dislike the 8-way rocker's buttons, sometimes it does not register my press.

Mine works great. I used to have the rebel T2i so it took me a couple of days to get used to the buttons but now zero issues with them.

I agree. I haven't realy had any issues. I've tried a 7D before and the joystick is more accurate when selecting AF points but I don't change it up too often.

Plus, I like that I can reach the d-pad while using a grip.

I was use to a 10D with only the wheel, so the rocker buttons are bonus' to me. I sometimes forget they are there and find my self clicking through with the wheel still.

^ Same here... the buttons aren't an issue for me. Well, the only "issue"..occasionally, is using the D-Pad in the winter(ie. -10C or colder), when my fingers are frozen. I wouldn't really classify that as a design issue, just my stupidity for trying to adjust with gloves off.

"A lot of people have been complaining about them?" Where? Who?

In online forums, there are always complaints. Those complaints are posted faster and more vociferously than compliments. This subsection of the forum is unusual because the participants are exceptionally satisfied with a piece of equipment and get more of a sense of personal power by posting images that display that satisfaction than by complaining.

At the same time this message is being posted, many forum members are enjoying themselves not by taking photographs, but by posting messages criticizing the recently announced Canon T5i. The criticism is flowing even though no one has actually used the camera and knows how it performs in the real world. Again, this subsection sees messages posted by people who actually like the 60D and enjoy it, even the control buttons that some people may dislike.

Hi Johan. I read similar reviews before I bought my 60D, can't remember if they were formal reviews or forum threads. Anyway, I agree that the pad buttons are a little sqidgy, but I got used to them quickly and don't have any problem at all now, hopefully you will do the same.

As an aside, my dad has just bought a 7D, the camera feels great in hand but I'm still not a fan of the joystick, it just feels nasty IMHO. Just my two pence worth!

I bought my 60D at the height of hate as it wasn't a direct descendant of the 50D. I love the layout of the controls on the 60D, including the d-pad. It's quick, intuitive for me (maybe because I have used it so extensively). I was pleasantly surprised to see the 6D followed the basic layout of the 60D which makes the 6D more appealing to me, should I ever decide to go FF. I have a 50D as a second body, and I am probably on my own here, but I'm not a fan of the joystick, probably because I had the 60D first.

Hello photography-on-the.net, been a lurker, now it`s time for my first post here.

I have a question for 60D users: does mode dial (that part above on/off switch with mode icons) on yours 60ds wobbles/rocks a little too? When I take it in my fingers, I can move it slightly to the sides: up/down, left/right. Its movement is like 0,5~1 mm.

I can move mine slightly (probably 0.5-1mm) turning it right/left but up and down it is tight.

prarts,

Mine rocks slightly. I can't think in mm-s but in inches it's about 1/32" (.79mm, according to google) perhaps. Not much and it doesn't really feel loose.

I've taken thousands of pics (although dial is usually on M anyway) and until your enquiry I had never noticed that same movement. It is a very firm movement which feels like the way it should. I really have to apply some pressure to feel the movement. I suspect there is a rubber weather seal on the shaft and feel the movement one has to force against the seal's resistance. I wouldn't like to get into a nervous habit of "playing" with it .... like worry beads etc or it could wear out! :(
