one day I may get the 17-40L... had the 15-85 but found I don't shoot wide very often so got the 24-105L

I'm thinking bout making the jump from 15-85 to 24-105... specially now that I got a 10-22.

what end of the 15-85 do you use most? if you feel 85 stil is not quite long enough - great deals on 24-105L's out there...

The build is nice but I do miss the 15mm for the rare times I want to capture more...

For what it is worth, especially since there are great deals on used ones. Make sure you try to find an affordable kit lens. I bought one used and have used it plenty for a year and half and the other day during a shoot the aperture blades failed. Between a $350-650 fix, the price of a new lens. I replaced with a Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC. So far so good with it.

Gorgeous photo!

I looked at the full res. You can print it big! Like 24x36!

I use it mostly on the 50-85 range or at 15. I rarely feel like I need below 24 but I do I'll have the 10-22.

Interesting, do the Tamron's have any quality issues?

I'm not 100% sure about the quality issues if any, I do know that Tamron has a 6 year warranty so it is pretty worry-free getting one.

Also, don't read too much into my 24-105 problems. I'm not sure how old it was or what the person before me did to the lens. There are plenty of people who have one that is problem free and only a small handful of people who have had the blades problem.

Nicely abstract shot! Great brain-teaser photo. A drop of water on a feather? ???

Thank you, Pekka! I'm sure some members here might have imagined that POTN might begin winding down. But that doesn't make the news any less disappointing. So generous of you to allow us to go along for the ride. As a result you gave us a way to help each other become better photographers. But there's still so much more to learn.

I wonder if a lot of high frame rate continuous shooting puts some extra stress on the lens. Does anyone know if the blades stay at a fixed aperture for high speed shooting or do they cycle open and closed for each exposure?

I'm not an engineer, but I would think the aperture blades would stay where it's set. The shutter moves.

It is a beautiful shot! Just a suggestion if I may. Before you print it, you might consider straightening the river horizon line. Take it from one who has made that mistake. :)

Thanks Paul - and just between you and me I had planed on going back to the bridge and snap off a hand full more, but be more observant of small details like what you suggest. And if at all possible,I was going to try to get more detail from the bridge - maybe a multi exposure/HDR set. Just one of the many small projects floating around inside my head
