all those shots were taken with your 60D? Did you have to do a lot of editing? I still for the life of me have not gotten into editing. I am so stuck on film that I use my DSLR the same I try to get the shots and just crop. I know that eventually I have to but I am fighting the inevitable. Just curious since your shots seem to be dead on.

Im an iso noise freek which is probably not a good thing at this time
I shoot as low as possible usually on the brink of blackness
I need to get better at this
most of my shots were 640-1000 iso not many 1000
all were f4
most were 1/640-1/800 a few may have been 1/1000

I have to do a ton of editing because they are so underexposed
Noise drives me nuts
but I need a decent ss to stop action
the eternal question and delima for sports shooters unless they have long reach and a ff
I have neither because of funds

If you look on the sports thread many disagreed with my PP
and I agree with them because some shotas the turf was ok and many not
plus I have to do so much PP its easy to muck it up

I use LR 4
I basically play with it till I like it

I need to go higher iso and get better at PP
or get a better noise program or both

I started writing something on the 60D friends thread when you posted, but then my wife dragged me away for an engagement and I never came back.

a) Try to set a custom white balance. The lights appear yellowish, so you get a yellow tint. Contrary to popular belief, you can't remove it easily in post.

b) For low noise, low light photos, you are doing it all wrong. You are better off shooting ISO 5000 and ETTR rather than underexposing to keep the ISO low and therefore the noise.

Are you aware of Teamspeed's mini-review on reducing the noise for the 7D? This applies to all digital sensors.

Next time, try to set a Custom White Balance and then shoot JPEGs with Exposure compensation of +1. Take the ISO as high as needed. Tell us what happened!

I started shooting digital about ten years ago and I'm still stunned occasionally by how long it's taken me to update from some of my film shooting habits. But I don't worry about it as much now as I did initially because so much of what you learn from film generally applies to digital as well.

But maybe the biggest drawback for me has been a reluctance to adapt a "spray and pray" shooting attitude. I'm certain that I miss some good shots as a result of this but it's hard for me to remember that I can essentially shoot so much more for free with digital. But I am getting better about remembering to turn up the frame rate and getting a burst of shots if I'm action shooting. Sometimes.

Noise can always make you a bit crazy, especially when shooting higher speed films. And earlier digital cameras weren't a whole lot better in this regard. Things could start falling apart at 200 or 400 ISO. But one of the high points of the 60D for me has been it's ability to control noise surprisingly well at higher ISOs and longer exposures. There's still times when I'd swear that this camera makes it's own light in places where my own eyes don't see it. And overexposing a stop or two can help keep noise in check as well.

Your sports shots look pretty good to me. Sharp, but not oversharpened after the fact. The exposure looks good and the W/B seems very natural, especially considering whatever kind of funny lighting they use on these fields. A couple look a tad oversaturated to my eyes but it does give them a nice "pop". But don't be afraid try shooting some at 1600 or 3200 ISO, maybe slightly overexposed. You might be surprised at the results.

And when you do see some noise make sure you're not looking at the shot at 200% or 400% on your monitor. Pixel peeping can take years off your life. And unless you're making very tight crops or large prints, most people will never see it.

Thanks it was taken with my siggy 150-500 @ 500 handheld, F11, 1/60, ISO 100. PP was a simple crop and +2 sharpen.

I need to get out and take some more moon shots, I want to try stacking them for detail.
