This seems to be a forum mostly used to share photos. Is this also a place to ask questions about my 60D? I'm a rookie and having an issue. If this isn't the place for that, let me know and I'll keep looking. :)

This is the place! Ask away, and someone will have an answer, or can point you to someplace that does. There is also another thread right here that spun off of this thread and expanded.

Thanks!

I keep getting a "busy" error after I take photos and the camera won't function. I've read in some forums where it can be a buffering issue when taking multiple photos, and the fix would be to get a faster/better SD card. It is happening to me after taking single photos. Just regular, standard, auto focus single shots. I'm going to try a different SD card, but does anyone have any other ideas what might be the issue? This is the camera for where I work, and I'm entering into a season where I need the camera to be reliable.

^^ SD card definitely sounds like the first thing to check out. By the way, are you shooting straight Jpeg, Raw, or Raw+Jpeg? Perhaps the SD card you have cannot handle write speeds required for Raw or Raw+Jpeg? Also I would try to take note of any custom settings you may have had on the camera and try doing a reset from the menu to clear out anything that might be causing an issue.

Thanks! Hopefully that will fix it. I'm shooting straight JPEG.
I'm glad I found this forum!

Make sure the noise reduction is turned off. Just try with RAW only setting (if not JPG only).

Does your card (SDHC or SDXC) have what CLASS it is? I would use a Class 10 by minimum. 16GB Class 10 SDHC should only cost you $14 or so on Amazon. They have Sony's SDXC 64GB Class 10 for $37 right now which is the one I got recently.

make sure custom functions like noise reduction and highlight priority are turned off and get a faster SD memory card (class 10)

Actually I would post in the future over in the DSLR area. Then the replies might not get buried in this area.

If you live in the States get yourself a card from a place like Best Buy or Staples (Fry's maybe, I see Aggie). The brand name cards sre frequently on sale for just a couple of bucks more than online sources where many counterfeit cards are known to exist. The big stores get the cards direct from the importer. Online deal with B&H or Adorama. Amazon, be careful of ultimate source.

...and do a low level format in camera and retest your current card.

Could this be something as simple as making sure the SD card has been formatted in this specific camera? ???

(Honest... The above post wasn't there as I was typing this!)

Thank you, Pekka! I'm sure some members here might have imagined that POTN might begin winding down. But that doesn't make the news any less disappointing. So generous of you to allow us to go along for the ride. As a result you gave us a way to help each other become better photographers. But there's still so much more to learn.
