THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff.

No perspective correction at 8 mm, just cropping the bottom 2/5 of the photo and color/brightness corrections! I love the Sigma 8-16!

The EFS 10-18 is close, less expensive and AFAIK takes filters (the Sigma doesn't, at least cheaply). Time is a-wasting... ;-)a

I have a 10-18 that I pair frequently with my 60D and it basically saved my 60D from being set on the shelf on a regular basis in favor just going light and using my cell phone. I love that lens, I fell back in love with the body I got nearly 6 years ago, and I LOVE the IS they put on the 10-18. Another rec from me for you to look into it. The 10mm end is wide enough, lol.

Here is the difference:

8 mm

10 mm

and a comparison to 18 mm which comes with the kit lens:

...and the 'normal' fifty...

Thank you for these comparisons! There really is very little difference between the 8MM and 10MM lens.

Your Sigma 8-16 lens I have had on my wishlist. I am thinking the quality of that lens would be better than the Canon 10-18. What do you know about those 2 lenses?

When I got the Sigma, the 10-18 had not hit the market. The only Canon choice was the EFS 11-22 at a price similar to the Sigma.

The Sigma had better resolution/contrast, handled flare superbly and was wider (even in the 8-10 mm comparison, the difference is approx. 25%). The Canon could accept filters.

The EFS 10-18 is substantially cheaper, has good resolution and flare handling and can accept filters. I think if I were buying today I would buy the EFS 10-18.

Thank you! In my mind I was 'thinking' the reason the Canon 10-18 was cheaper was because the quality may not be near as good. But if what you say is correct, I will save some $$$ to buy the Canon and not lose in quality of photos.

From what I've read, the quality of the 10-18 is very good, as is with all 'new generation' APS-C STM lenses. At least resolution-wise.

In addition, I've heard good things about flare handling. This is important because for Ultra-wide lenses, you have nowhere to hide.

Handling filters may be important too, a polarizing filter is a must for a lot of landscape photos.

If you don't already have Lightroom for RAW processing, or if you're shooting mostly jpegs because you think Canon DPP4 acts a little "funny" sometimes, click the link below. ;-)a It's on the 60D off-topic thread.

https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18265431

DxO Labs is offering a FREE download of OpticPro 9 through Feb. 28th. It's a couple of versions old but you might be surprised by how well it works on CR2 files from your Canon 60D. At least it does on my Win7 desktop.

Thank you, Pekka! I'm sure some members here might have imagined that POTN might begin winding down. But that doesn't make the news any less disappointing. So generous of you to allow us to go along for the ride. As a result you gave us a way to help each other become better photographers. But there's still so much more to learn.

Glad to help out a fellow Hoosier. :-D Haven't dug into it too deeply yet, but so far I like what I'm seeing. I'd be curious to hear what you think of it after you've used it a bit. I like DPP4 for the most part but OpticPro seems every bit as capable, and I think a bit faster. I still need to try a batch conversion of 10 or 20 RAW files and see how smooth that runs.
