Both of these just beg to be blown up. I'm thinking about 40"x40." They are striking images and would look terrific hanging on a wall.

Many thanks Hinson that means a lot!

Yes, 1/8 is too slow. The moon travels at ~15 arc Seconds, per second. An arc second on Terra is a mile on Luna. I would stick to and try to achieve a low ISO enough to give you at least 1/125.

IMO, you don't need to stop down heavily on this target, especially at this focal length. You will be cropping heavily with the framing you posted. Small apertures like f16 and smaller aren't going to show any better center performance than f5.6 - f8 in most situations, and since your using the dead center of the chip... Well, you know the rest of that story.

Have fun, slap some teleconverters on and show us a close up, better yet, if you get hooked, head over to CloudyNights.com, we'd be happy to have you there :)

Took your advice tonight. Mirror locked. F/8, ISO 400, 1/400. Unsharpen mask applied in PS. A bit better I think, thanks. Still wish it would be a bit sharper but at this point I think that's my lens limitation. Would be nice to see a similar shot taken with Canon EF 70-300 IS USM to compare it with my Tamron 70-300 VC USD since I am trying to decide between these two. I like Tamron for full time manual focus and image stabilization on it is phenomenal. But Canon may have a better IQ with all things being equal. Decisions...

Edit: Actually found the same shots taken with Canon 70-300 here and a bunch more in the same thread. Looks like my Tamron did pretty good and is a keeper :)

Here is one from my vacation last week that I really love.
My brother caught a "sucker" off the dock and my mom's lab "Cocoa" was interested:)

Alright, everyone knows I shoot mainly sports. So what do you guys think about going with a 24-105 instead of a 17-55. The f/4 will be fine for indoor sports for me since thats mainly basketball and I usually shoot around f/4 anyways and I think I'll enjoy the range on it more.

Thoughts?

BTW going to buy my second 60D today.

I think you will like the 70-200 much better, faster, sharper and longer. Try renting them both and see what you prefer first.

Hey guys just wanted to run something by you. I got a 60D about 3 months ago and I have been loving every minute of it. I have recently been considering upgrading the glass. The lens it came with was a 18-135 kit lens.

Here is my situation. I am mainly a walk-around shooter. I don't use the camera for portraits in a studio or anything like that. I do like landscapes and urban settings (old buildings, streets, lights, etc.). The current kit lens takes some great photos, some images I see taken with L lenses are simply spectacular. Also I do not like the AF or the lens creep from the kit lens.

I am considering upgrading to the 24-105 L as my walk around lens. The other option is getting a Canon or 3rd party (probably Sigma) Ultra-wide angle like a 10-22 or 10-20. I would use this in my street photography and landscapes.

S0 here is the question: when upgrading a lens, do I go for upgrading the walk-around lens and hope this is wide enough or do I get an additional lens to compliment the focal ranges I already have?

Benji, you'll probably get many answers to your question as I doubt there is one single "right" answer. Here's mine. I had to start out with a two lens solution initially. I'll be adding lenses as time goes by but I like the 15-85 for its width on a crop and the 85mm is a nice range on the long end. I saved up for the 70-300L and got it a month or so after the 60D and 15-85. I'm quite pleased with this two lens set-up, though I do hope to add a 100L macro soon.

I already had a 580EX II flash so I use that indoors with the 15-85 and it works well.

Went for a short walk today near Nabnasset Pond in Westford, MA and took some shots. It was mid-day so sun was pretty harsh and light was not ideal, but I think these few are not too bad. C&C is welcomed and appreciated.
