Good morning guys!

I have a quick question, i've been trying to figure out how to make my skies bluer on my photos.... i dont run any filter on any of my lenses, and i do understand that by not doing so, i rish my foront element getting damaged... i know this...

can someone recommend me a Sky Filter for my L lenses which i can use when shooting models, glammour, etc, that will ONLY effect the sky..

thanks!

Enjoy your day!

Assuming you meant a skylight filter you might have better luck with a polarizer as these tend to deepen the blue in skies. If you have Lightroom or Photoshop you can also adjust the sky.

To get the deep blue skies, you will need a Circular Polarizer. It can do things to the sky, reduce reflections, etc, etc...that you cannot recreate using LightRoom or PhotoShop. Keep in mind that you will lose two stops of light with a polarizer.

There are a ton of threads on Circular Polarizers - just do a search. Don't buy a cheap one! This is the one I (and many others) use. Obviously, you will need to get the proper size to fit the lens(es) you want to use this on.

A CPL can help darken the sky.

The Hoya HD CPL allegedly gives around 80~90% transmission. I have both a HD and Pro1D and the HD is certainly lighter in appearance (less smoked).

Think about the actual question - there's no filter which will affect ONLY sky if there is anything else in the image at all. Even grads bleed down into the non-sky area unless you're composing radically. See one bit, see all bits. A polariser will have most effect on the sky, but it'll also potentially change other things (saturation for example). However, it's the best option available as long as you accept that there may be other changes too.

Or you could commission one of the filters in my old stack.

Other odd bits over the decades, simply to get the job done - not merely to polish and brag about cos I'm too mean to buy the polish!

A quick example of before and after using Photoshop CS5. This took about 30 seconds (quick selection tool, up the hue slightly, up the saturation slightly). No filters used here as this was taken with my Canon S100 (through a plexiglass window).

Here is a quick example using my CPL. These are straight from the camera. Pretty obvious which one used a polarizer and which one didn't. I can't believe I forgot to put it on in the first example! This looks MUCH more natural than what I can do in LightRoom.
