Hey everyone. This is my first post. I've been reading and learning from everyone for a while though! I was in Florida a while back and took this shot. I'm not sure what kind of spider it is, but it was beautiful. Let me know what you guys think. I used a 20d and canon 100mm f/2.8 macro (which I am in love with).:D

not bad first time. Could use a little more focus. I'd started macro myself, but theres no bug around here this time of year.

Nice attempt of a beautiful spider. You may want to try get a sharper image the next time round by....

- Increasing the shutter speed (1/focal length) in your case will be 1/100s
and above if handheld shot or,
- Use a flash or,
- Use a tripod.

in addition, try to frame the whole subject including all body parts like the legs. :) (Followed by another zoom in head shot if you want a real close up on it.)

Keep shooting!;)

Cheers....

I think your DOF might be better if you used a smaller f stop. I looks to me that you are focused on the body and put the legs in a blur. What were your settings?

That's a very cool looking minibeast! Where abouts are you and do you know what the species is?

Cheers!

thanks to all for the comments! I was around Boca Roton(spelling?) for a wedding, and found this spider in a park along the beach. I dont know what kind it is. I've been trying to find out, so will let you know if I do.
I did not have my tripod with me, and the wind was crazy, so I had a lot of trouble keeping everything in focus.
I think maybe a lower f-stop would have helped, or a higher shutter speed.
Thanks again for all the help!

I like it . Try to find something similar and give it another chance with higher shutter speed and higher iso , if you don't want to use the flash

Thanx for sharing

Welcome to the forum. Nice job, follow the advice given above should give you a perfect capture. It would be useful if you posted your area and equipment so that advice is relative to what you have.
