Lense with glidecam help

Hi, I'm new to filming and video recording, so I really need help.I bought a glidecam and a prime 50 mm 1.4 lense for my T3i. Would it be a better way to go with a 16-24 mm lense in order to get a better smooth glide effect? And im really looking to get a professional film look. So thats why I went with 1.4. But if I got a 2.8 lense, would that still give me the professional look i'm looking for?

p.s. the glidecam has a big learning curve to it. does anyone have any suggestions to some good tutorials on how to hold it and to get the wanted smooth effect?

The drawback to using a wide aperture is that the shallow DOF makes focusing a nightmare and certainly not with a glidecam, but firmly fixed to a tripod. Usually narrow DOF shots are set up carefully and are fixed. When using a glidecam I would go for f11 and around 30mm to give enough latitude in DOF so your shots look sharp enough in the video.

As to using a glidecam I can't offer any help I'm afraid, but would imagine once you have the balance set up practice, and more practice. Don't try and rely on it for too many shots, if you study videos most would be static or possibly dolly or crane shots.

I am also interested in performing some video with a glide cam.
I am curious UK, you mention not many use the glider...I have seen a lot of it's use on Vimeo/Youtube.

In this video, does this person use a high depth of field in most of his running shots? is that why he doesn't have a problem with focusing? and the 35mm isn't exactly a wide angle lense.
