What is the craziest thing that you have tried to run off your VLM?

I have heard of people using it to powere their computers on planes....and charging cell phones on a shoot.

How about it?

So far the craziest thing I have used it for is...well...to power a strobe. I am not very crazy I guess....;)

We own ten of them where I work and none of them are for photography. We use them to power wireless access points so we can create temporarly small-scale Wi-Fi networks in warehouses that are too large to cover the entire building. They work quite well for this!

Interesting. How long do they sustain a wi-fi device without recharging?

The power access in our CRV is shorted out so I have used both the vagabond II and VML to power the GPS unit on trips. Also used it to power a portable DVD player for the wife on a long drive across Kansas.

Somewhere, there is someone who has charged a Vagabond with another Vagabond.

Hard to say exactly how long they would last, but we have very good results. We will run a Linksys access point, a laptop, and a 4 port battery charger (for Motorola handheld computers) off of one and can run all day (8 hours) and still have over 1/4 charge left. We always have a spare battery on-hand but to my knowledge have never needed it. Note that the type of access point does make a difference... we originally looked at using larger Cisco access points, not because we wanted to but because we had them, but found that the current draw was significantly higher (likely due to cooling fans, etc).

The VML isn't what enabled us to do this, as we used to do it occasionally with a deep cycle battery and inverter, but the VML is convenient enough that we can do it more often. We have a number of locations that will use these and it's not practical to ship the DC battery, but these can obviously be shipped easily.

During a snow storm we had in October I lost power at my house for almost a week - I used a VML to charge iPad, iPhone, and power an LED lamp for a little while at night.

Use my Vagabond II when power is out. Have not tried the mini. I also run my dsl modem and wifi during power outages. Need to check into LED Lamp.
