Hi! I lost one of my 2 Nikon SB 24's this past weekend in a freak car trunk accident (my husband won't soon forget this lesson!) & the insurance adjuster is asking me to give him a replacement flash suggestion. I am really a Canon user but had bought the 2 Nikon SB 24s because of cost. The insurance pays replacement cost, so I need suggestions for a new flash head. I need one with a PC jack so I can use my PW PlusIIs with it (I know there are adapters but to me, I had a flash with a PC jack so I want the replacement to have one). Does the Canon 430EXII have one? I couldn't tell from the Canon website. Thanks!

I don't think it does, but you can get a hotshoe with sync cable attached from Flash Zebra....

Shoot. Thanks, but I really don't want to have to mess with a sync cable...so what's the suggestions for a flash that does have a PC port?

Yeahm, I'm familiar with those, & while they're really easy to use, I feel like why shouldn't I get a flash that had the on-board accessibility that I had since the insurance is paying for it? :D

Understand, but the 430EXII is much better than the 24...;)

Maybe for TTL, but not in any other way.

OP, are you just thinking new or is used an option?

The only Canon flashes that come with a PC sync port are the 580exII and the new 600ex-RT. I'm guessing they're out of the price range. Most Nikon flashes come with them. You could get a SB-26 or SB-28 which are pretty similar to the SB-24. The SB-26 is a bit better since it has that optical slave. The SB-28 is a bit smaller and lighter.

What I would do is buy a Canon flash. Get the best one that the insurance will cover. If you can buy the 430exII, then get it. Then get someone to modify it and add a sync port (voids warranty). It's not that hard to do and you can always use the Canon Wireless System as a back up to the PW.

Do you shoot on or off camera - TTL or manual?

If manual, just get another older Canon or Nikon, 540ez and up or SB25 and up.

If TTL and your looking in the price range of the SB-24 the only real option is Yongnuo E-TTLII compatable.
