Loons

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Saranac Lake, NY. Here are a couple beautiful birds that allowed us to share the swimming pond with them.


All three taken with 70-200 f4.

Thank you everyone! This is the closest the Loons have come to us in the three years I have been visiting this swimming pond.

I was actually chest deep in the water when taking these shots to account for the low perspective, maybe not the smartest thing in the world.. but you can see to the bottom of the pond so I was not too worried about tripping over something

Great shots Paul... i find them very tricky. They always seem to stay wayyy out from shore.. near the midde, they're so black to expose properly without blowing out the water/background, they're often diving, and they just sit low.. so most of them is submerged.

Getting them doing the Loon Dance is spectacular though, and has you leaving with a cheese-eating grin.


Edit: Must get out in my kayak more!
