I found this a very interesting read. It makes me so happy I grabbed my 1D4 when I did.

It couldn't focus to save its life. I sent it back to canon for repairs and it still didn't work. I found lots of early adopters online having similar issues. I was about ready to give up on it when they released a firmware update and poof, my camera works flawlessly now. I use it so much I wound up selling my 5D2. I needed a smaller camera for informal stuff and was considering a G1X but wound up with the new T4i, which is another story (great little camera!). But yeah, the 1D4 rocks in image quality and I do a lot of cropping at times.

I hope at some point to add a 1DX but I love the little extra reach plus stellar IQ and speed of the 1D4. If I am able to one day get the 1DX I think the combo of a 1DX and 1D4 will be great. I have considered the 5D3 but I love the features of the 1D series and I really find it hard to do without the ability to have exposure tied to the active AF point. That feature appears to only be available in a 1D body. Plus the extra speed and larger buffer, quicker AF due to a dedicated AF processor of the 1D series is hard to give up. I also like having a crop body around too both as a backup and a second body when reach is important.
