Tethering bottleneck

I have a Canon 5d MkIII, I am using EOS utilities to tether it to Lightroom 4. I shot RAW files only and have burst mode turned off. I still get to a point while I am shooting in the studio where I have to wait for the camera to catch up. My question is what can I look at that may be creating a bottleneck in my setup. I don't believe it is the camera since I am usually not able to push the trigger enough without burst mode to back up the buffer like this. TIA

why don't you tether directly to lightroom ? that might speed it up a tad

Lightroom 4 will not directly tether with the 5d mark III yet. I was hoping the latest update would fix that, but not yet. I have ordered 16gb of RAM to see if that has any effect as well as a solid 15ft USB cable instead of using the extension I currently have.
