I really enjoy mine(Sigma 70-300). The new Canon 70-300 IS looks nice, but for the price(3X the Sigma) you're not getting much more besides IS. No full time manual focus, front element turns with focus which makes using a CP filter harder. The Sigma doesn't have these features either, but it's not $550.

See this thread: https://photography-on-the.net …&highlight=sigma+70-300mm

Maybe someone who has used both can comment in image quality.

The Sigma APO DG is the only longer zoom worth having below the Canon 70-200 f4 and Sigma 100-300 f4 in my opinion, if you're interested in performance and value. Any longer zoom needs a monopod or tripod to give its best. If you try and handhold at 150mm plus you may find images a little blury.

At f/7.1 or above, this Sigma 70-300 is sharp enough.
i dont think IS is needed if you shoot at ISO 400 or above in normal light.

here are few shots with Sigma APO 70-300

No it won't work on this lens. even its not supported by Sigma's own TC.

But Tamron TC works with it.

I owned the Sigma 70-300 for a while, before I got my 80-200L. It is a decent lens for the price, but it does have its shortcomings. It is a very slow focuser, and is soft unless really stopped down from 220-300. Other than that, it's a good lens, and arguably the best of those in its range and price.

That said, the new Canon 70-300 IS blows its socks off in terms of sharpness, focus speed, and of course IS. But, it's 3x the price too, so you pay for it! :)
